The Process

A Bulk-buy isn't like any other car purchase. It is a journey in itself!

We have made this journey as smooth as we can, but there are a few stops along the way.

This page helps guide you to the destination of arriving safely home in a 100% electric vehicle.

At the end of the page you'll find a link to our latest pricing and vehicle specs where you can place an order.

Learn

We want you to buy a Good Car (or a good bike), as long as you are reducing your emissions! However, we do ask that if you are driving, drive electric.

First and foremost, we want you to make the best decision for yourself. We don't want to push you into buying something that isn't right for your needs.

That's why there are test drives, email information campaigns and events.  Please try and engage in these activities and make the best decision you can.

Decide and Commit

Once you have made the decision to purchase with us you can secure your position in the bulk buy and order your car.  We will ask you for your address and car order details.  We will use this information to create an Import Contract and send it out to you for review.

When the contracts are signed we send an invoice for "Milestone 1".  This is for the cost of the car at auction and some freight charges.  This is roughly ⅔ of the total price.  When this is all sorted we go shopping for your car.

Our contract is a bit different to what you're probably used to.  The contract is for us to be your Import Agent to import you a car. It sets out that we have permission to do all the steps to bring you a car from overseas.

The contract also sets out an arrangement whereby we reimburse you if we purchase a car cheaper at auction.  If we save on the “car price FOB” then we reimburse you in Milestone 2.

If you want to take a deep dive into the detail of the agreement, check out our Disclosure document (covers topics like the vehicle trim) and the Warranty documents.

Buy

This bit is exciting! We take your order details and go looking for a car that fits your needs.

When we find a likely car we conduct checks of the battery, mechanical and body condition. If we find a car that meets our standards we purchase that car.

The car is logged in our database and we send you a photo and a Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN - Thats your car's personal ID.

shipping

Shipping

We arrange to ship the car to Australia and get it delivered through customs.  We also arrange the car to go through a Registered Automotive Workshop that ensures its compliance to Australian roads. We arrange to

  • Thoroughly clean the vehicle inside and out

  • Upgrade the dashboard and vehicle headset to English Language

  • Provide a new, Australian compliant 240V/10A plug charger

  • Send you more email updates along the way

milestone

Milestone 2

This is your second and final invoice from us.

It will cover local trucking, compliance, service fees and spare parts etc.

There may also be a reimbursement. This is because we often purchase cars cheaper at auction than the maximum contract price. If we save this money we reimburse you here.

Delivery

We arrange for the car to be trucked to your local area.

The car will be inspected by a local mechanic to ensure it has its roadworthy certificate.  There will also be a box of goodies put in the car like a new charger and some handy tips on how to drive the car.

Handover

Now it's over to you!  This varies state by state, and we'll provide specific details in the email we send to you.

For example, in Victoria the process will be that you will make a booking with VicRoads to present your new car.  You take the car along and pay VicRoads for registration and stamp duty.

You can then drive away, emissions free!

time

Geez, this takes a bit of time!

Yes, this all takes some time.  From purchasing your car to delivery takes around 3 months. This is roughly 4 weeks of shipping from Japan and 8 weeks getting through Australian customs/compliance/roadworthy (red tape). Occasionally it will take longer to find your car at auction in Japan (especially if you're picky about colors and features). NB: If we haven't found you a car in three months we give you your money back.

Strangely enough, there is a global supply shortage of cars, especially EV's.  So while 3-4 months might sound a long time, most new cars are taking this long at the moment.
